New Delhi:
The government said on Saturday it was capping the price of liquid oxygen used to treat victims of the novel coronavirus and other respiratory illnesses after hoarding and shortage complaints, as the total for covid infections climbed to 5, 9 million nationwide.
The health ministry on Saturday reported more than 85,000 cases in the past 24 hours.
“Due to the lack of a price cap for liquid medical oxygen, manufacturers have increased the prices of fillers,” the government said in a statement, referring to buyers such as hospitals and clinics. that use oxygen.
To ensure that oxygen is available at reasonable prices, the government capped manufacturers’ prices at Rs 15.22 per cubic meter (CUM), the statement said.
Prices per cubic meter of medical oxygen delivered per cylinder to end users have been set at Rs 25.71, higher than the previous ceiling price of 17.49 / CUM.
The new price ceilings are applicable for six months and exclusive of tax.
India’s demand for medical oxygen has increased nearly fourfold to 2,800 tonnes per day, straining production and supply, the statement said.
