New Delhi:
The CBI investigating its own former directors in a corruption case is a “violation of the principles of natural justice,” a Delhi court said on Tuesday while shutting down the agency over a slow pace of investigation.
The CBI faced anger after its prosecutor requested more time for the investigation.
Special Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal observed the bribery case against controversial meat exporter Moin Akhtar Qureshi, in which the former directors of the investigative agency – Ranjit Sinha and AP Singh – are among those under the scanner.
“Four years have passed. In four years, no investigation has been conducted. How many more years will it take? Seven to ten more years?
“The director of CBI is the accused, and the agency is investigating the case itself? I’m surprised. This is a violation of the principle of natural justice,” said the judge.
The agency informed the court that four of its recent orders were challenged in the Delhi High Court.
Following the submission, the trial court adjourned the case to November 24 for a new hearing.
The CBI had filed an alleged corruption complaint against Qureshi in 2017.
During the investigation into the case, the names of Mr. Sinha and Mr. Singh were also brought up and their alleged roles are examined.
