Mumbai:
The CBI on Thursday filed a charge sheet against Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor, DHFL co-founders Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan and others in a matching case involving the private sector lender.
It is alleged that Kapoor’s family received bribes for Yes Bank’s investment in the DHFL debentures.
The indictment, filed in special court, also named the daughter of Rana Kapoor, Roshni, Diwan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL), RKW Developers and DoIT Urban Ventures (India).
The central investigation agency had registered a complaint against Kapoor and others under section 120 (B) of the IPC (criminal conspiracy) and the Prevention of Corruption Act for alleged fraud in Yes Bank.
The Central Investigation Bureau arrested Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan in April this year, and they are not in judicial detention.
Rana Kapoor is also in police custody after being arrested by the Directorate of Law Enforcement in a related case.
According to the CBI, Kapoor has entered into a criminal plot with Kapil Wadhawan to extend its financial assistance to DHFL via Yes Bank.
The scam took place between April and June 2018, when Yes Bank invested 3,700 crore rupees in short-term debentures of Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd (DHFL).
In return, Wadhawan allegedly “paid a rebate of 600 crore rupees” to Kapoor in the form of loans to DoIT Urban Ventures, a business controlled by the wife and daughters of Kapoor, said the CBI.
