The CBI recovered cash and gold ornaments worth more than Rs 87 lakh on Friday during searches of the premises of a senior accountant who works in Imphal’s accountant general’s office, officials said. .

Konjengbam Ibothem Singh was accused by the CBI of amassing Rs 58.75 lakh in assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, they said.

“It was alleged that the accused, from August 1, 2005 to July 30, 2020, acquired enormous property, movable and immovable, on his behalf and on behalf of his family members which were disproportionate to his sources of known income, ”CBI spokesperson said in a statement.

He said that searches had been carried out at the home and office of the accused, which resulted in the recovery of 54.45 lakh rupees, gold ornaments worth 32.89 lakh, around 130 notebooks of ‘pension payment orders, approximately 139 ATM cards and other incriminating documents.
