A complaint was filed against an American aid worker who allegedly assaulted a doctor in a COVID-19 Meghalaya’s Shillong hospital, spit on his employees and ransacked the establishment after he was taken there with breathlessness complaints to his Assam returns, said an official on Wednesday.
Authorities at Shillong Civil Hospital on Tuesday filed a lawsuit with Meghalaya police against Theodore Moallem, who asked Air India for help, saying he had to “quickly” return to the United States to go there. consult doctors.
One case has been registered against the man, who is associated with a Shillong-based NGO, and the investigation is underway, said a police official.
Theodore Moallem’s COVID-19 test result was negative and he is now under quarantine at home.
According to a report submitted to the health department by hospital authorities, the man went to Guwahati on May 26 and returned on June 6.
He has suffered from chest pain and shortness of breath since his return and went to the hospital on June 6.
“The patient was informed of the injections, but became violent and started to break the doors and chairs of the hospital and attacked the nurses and the doctor on duty,” the report said, adding that one general surgeon suffered a broken finger during the attack.
The man also allegedly used abusive language in addition to coughing and spitting on employees on duty.
In a Facebook article posted on June 7, he said: “They didn’t technically confirm the diagnosis, they just started to scold me and giggle for hours that I craved aspirin. They have injected me at least twice, maybe three times. Never confirm the contents of the syringe … “
Meanwhile, in a tweet to Air India on Tuesday, he said, “I have to return to the United States quickly now because I have heart problems and I need to see doctors at their home (sic).”
