New Delhi:

The Union government on Wednesday approved the development of affordable rental housing complexes for urban migrants and the poor as a subprogramme as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban, the government said.

As part of this program, government-funded vacant housing complexes will be converted to the Affordable Rental Housing Complex (ARHC).

An expenditure of Rs 600 crore is estimated in the form of “technological innovation subsidy”, said an official spokesperson on Twitter after the cabinet meeting.

He said that three lakh beneficiaries will be covered initially. The complexes will revert to urban local authorities (ULB) after 25 years to relaunch the next cycle.
