New Delhi:
The Border Security Force (BSF) paid tribute on Sunday to Deputy Inspector Rakesh Dobhal, 39, who was killed in the line of duty on the eve of Diwali, during the ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.
A wreath laying ceremony for Mr Dobhal of the artillery regiment was led by Dr Rajesh Mishra, Inspector General of the Kashmir border, in Srinagar on Sunday morning.
“Sub-Inspector Rakesh Dobhal immediately reacted to the call for duty of retaliation (to Pakistani fire) … thus causing serious damage to the enemy in the Naugam sector. As he fought bravely, he was hit. He was immediately evacuated, but died on his way to the hospital, ”a statement from the BSF read.
The BSF family salutes its courageous member and is indebted for his sacrifice for the Nation, she added.
Mr. Dobhal joined the border security forces in 2004. He is survived by his parents, his wife and a daughter who live in Dehradun, Uttrakhand.
Eleven people, including four Indian army soldiers and Mr. Dobhal, were killed on Friday in major gunfire along the Line of Control through the districts of northern Jammu and Kashmir.
Indian forces responded vigorously to the bombing and military sources said there were many casualties on the Pakistani side.
About 6 to 7 Pakistani army soldiers, including two SSG (Special Service Group) commandos, were killed and 10 to 12 wounded, according to army sources.
A number of Pakistani military bunkers, fuel dumps and launch pads have been destroyed and set on fire, they added. The military also posted videos of the strikes.
Pakistan’s violation of the ceasefire has inflicted great harm on civilians, including damage to their property, said Rajesh Mishra, inspector general of the BSF (IG) in Kashmir, adding that “the issue of violations of human rights “should be raised against the country.
