London:
The British government on Tuesday accused a “technical error” of an embarrassing blunder in which Donald Trump’s deleted name appeared in an online congratulatory statement to Joe Biden.
Keen-eyed Twitter users spotted the words “Trump,” “the future” and “second term” lightly hidden in the graphic posted on Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s official account to mark Biden’s electoral triumph.
“As you would expect, two statements have been prepared in advance for the outcome of this hotly contested election,” a Downing Street spokesperson said.
“A technical error meant that parts of the alternate message were embedded in the background of the graphic.”
Johnson prepared two newspaper articles for and against Britain’s departure from the European Union before leading the Brexit campaign in 2016.
Despite the mistake, Johnson on Tuesday became the first European leader to speak to Biden following his victory.
