London:

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Monday that Britain could reopen all non-essential retail stores on June 15 if the coronavirus remains contained.

“On June 15, we plan to allow all non-essential retailers, from department stores to small independent stores, to reopen,” Johnson told reporters, noting that “it will depend on progress against” the disease. .

The number of official British deaths of 36,914 is the highest in Europe.

But the number of new deaths and infections has dropped sharply since its peak and the country is poised to reopen foreign markets and schools for young children on June 1.

“Because of the progress we are making, I can confidently inform the British people of the changes we intend to introduce as we move into the second stage,” said Johnson.

He added that classes could resume for older children on June 15.

“We are asking the schools to reopen gradually,” he said.

“I am convinced that the common sense of the British people will allow us to get through.”
