Sydney:
A woman who was left bleeding after being attacked while swimming in Australia told reporters “I still love sharks” while being transported to hospital on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old filmmaker was diving in Queensland when she was laid off, suffering from cuts and a possible broken ankle.
But the woman, who is working on a documentary on the sharks but was not named, was still determined to give ocean predators the benefit of the doubt.
“I still love sharks,” she yelled to the film crews as she passed over a stretcher. “Sharks are beautiful.”
Although the woman suffered when paramedics arrived, she was now stable, smiling and very happy, said Terry Cumming, a paramedic from the Queensland Ambulance.
Marine biologist Gareth Phillips said the fact that the woman’s injuries were relatively minor suggested that it was unlikely that it was a shark that bit her, but likely other large fish.
“If it was a shark, it would have been a very small shark,” he said. “Chances are it’s a giant trevally or a red bar.”
