Madhya Pradesh BJP chief Kailash Sarang died today in a hospital in Mumbai, Maharashtra, family sources say. He was 85 years old.

Kailash Sarang, who suffered from age-related illnesses, was admitted to a Mumbai hospital 12 days ago, sources told PTI News Agency.

He is survived by two sons and three daughters. His son Vishwas Sarang is a minister in the government of Madhya Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on his death and said he will be remembered as a compassionate and hardworking leader.

“Kailash Sarang Ji has made extraordinary efforts to strengthen the BJP across Madhya Pradesh. He will be remembered as a compassionate and hardworking leader committed to the advancement of the MP,” tweeted Prime Minister Modi.

“Anguished by his disappearance. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti,” he said.
