As the ballot began for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, BJP President JP Nadda on Wednesday called on voters to participate in this great festival of democracy while adhering to COVID-19 guidelines .
In a tweet, he said the right to vote is the greatest strength of democracy.
“The first phase of the ballot for the Bihar assembly elections takes place today. I call on people to take part in the great festival of democracy while bearing in mind the precautions related to COVID,” said Mr Nadda said.
“Pehle matdaan phir jalpaan (First vote then meal)”, he added.
Making a similar appeal, BJP Secretary General (Organization) BL Santhosh said 71 Bihar seats would be sent to the polls today in the first elections held amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We must defeat the pandemic and celebrate the festival of democracy. Stay safe but vote in large numbers. Vote for the NDA with credible leadership and an alliance of artists,” Mr. Santhosh tweeted.
Voting for the assembly of 243 Bihar members will take place in three phases – October 28, November 3 and November 7.
The vote for 71 seats takes place on Wednesday.
The ruling alliance BJP-JD (U) participates in the elections together and the two parties have also linked up with VIP and HAM respectively by allocating seats from their quota
