Patna:
Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday inspected construction work at Darbhanga airport and met with Minister of Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri to remove the delayed bottlenecks the project.
Kumar also met with the President of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Arvind Singh, and urged him to speed up construction.
The chief minister said that this was a very important project, but that he faced several problems.
The problems were resolved immediately after Mr. Kumar met with Mr. Puri, according to an official statement.
Darbhanga is one of the airports in the Centre’s ambitious UDAN program, which aims to improve regional connectivity.
Mr. Kumar, who was accompanied by Minister of Water Resources Sanjay Kumar Jha, Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar and a host of other officials, was informed by the IAA that 55% of the construction of the track landing were completed.
The Chief Minister also asked the IAA to widen the airport taxiway, in addition to quickly terminating the terminal.
Instructing officials to connect the terminal to a separate route from national route 527B, he suggested that entry and exit be done from gate number 1 so that the Air Force base and l airport have separate routes.
The people of Darbhanga and all of northern Bihar will benefit once air operations start from Darbhanga airport, said Kumar, saying that Mithilanchal would benefit from an economic boost.
The chief minister ordered the Darbhanga district magistrate, Thiyagrajan SM, to regularly supervise the construction of the airport.
Darbhanga Airport is built as a civilian enclave, part of an Indian Air Force base dedicated to civil aviation operations, in Kevti, about six kilometers from the city of Darbhanga.
