Patna:

A central team is today going to Bihar to access the state’s preparedness for the coronavirus in the middle of the pandemic. The visit of the three-member team led by assistant secretary Lav Agarwal comes amid allegations of mismanagement of the COVID-19 situation by the Nitish Kumar government. The state reported more than 1,700 cases on Saturday.

Several videos circulate on social networks in which people complain about the insufficient facilities and negligence in public hospitals.

In Katihar, a patient is said to have died in a hospital after hospital staff did not provide him with an oxygen cylinder.

RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav – who attacked Nitish Kumar because of the crisis management – today shared a video of people complaining about the lack of doctors and nurses in a hospital in Siwan. We see a woman lying unattended on a hospital bed while her attendants are calling for help.

“There is no doctor to treat us. They just came, gave an injection and left,” heard a voice in the background in the video. Almost all the beds in the room were empty.

Siwan is the birthplace of the Minister of Health, Mangal Pandey.

Yadav previously accused the chief minister of “wreaking havoc with the life of 12.6 crore Biharis” and accused him of enhancing his image on the lives of people in the state. “Bihar is on the way to becoming a global hot spot for the COVID-19 pandemic,” said the head of the RJD on Saturday, accusing the government of having exceeded the “low” number of tests in progress.

“Nitishji wreaks havoc with the life of 12.6 crores of Biharis. To avoid bad press, he erases the data. Is your image more important than the life of our people, Mr. Prime Minister”, a- he said, warning hundreds of thousands of deaths if low levels of testing continue.

According to the latest figures from the Bihar government, 24,967 people tested positive for the virus as of July 17. Samples of 10,502 people have been collected in the past 24 hours, the statement said. The state also reported a recovery rate of 63.17%.

But Mr. Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly, said that the state should perform 30,000 to 35,000 tests a day given the size and population of Bihar.

If the required number of tests were done, 4,000 to 5,000 cases would be detected every day, placing the state at the top of the country in terms of the spread of the coronavirus, he said.

The Bihar government has, however, refuted the allegations of leveling by Tejashwi Yadav.

“Corona is a pandemic and the people of Bihar know that the situation is difficult. The state government is sensitive to the issue (COVID-19) and is taking all measures to stop the infection. Doctors and health workers are putting their lives to death But you (Tejashwi) can’t see it, “said Bihar Minister and JDU chief Neeraj Kumar, quoted by the ANI news agency.

However, it was not only the opposition that questioned Nitish Kumar’s response to the crisis.

On Saturday, the Lok Janshakti party, which is part of the Bihar alliance, welcomed the centre’s decision to send a team to examine the situation of COVID-19 in Bihar.

“The spiral of coronavirus cases in Bihar could soon lead to an explosive situation and has become a matter of concern for the people of the state. Given the circumstances, the central government has decided to send a team to Bihar to the situation could, “tweeted Paswan.

Tweets from young LJP national president arrived just hours after opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav called the central team’s visit as evidence that the “Nitish Kumar government is manipulating COVID-19 figures” in the State.
