Guwahati:
Bhutan King Jigme Khesar wrote to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal thanking him for allowing the movement of vehicles carrying essential goods to the neighboring country amid the lockdown and ensuring the well-being of the population.
The king called the gesture a faithful reflection of the friendship and brotherhood between the peoples of Assam and Bhutan, according to a statement released by the state government on Friday.
“Although Assam and its people have fought hard to contain the pandemic through the necessary lockdown and reduction of population movements, the benevolence of the Assam authorities in allowing the movement of vehicles carrying essential goods to Bhutan has been helping its people and ensuring their well-being during the lockdown, “he said in the letter.
“I remain grateful for your goodwill and look forward to your continued support,” he added.
The king also said the efforts of the government of Assam will stop the spread of the coronavirus very soon as he sympathizes with the people of the state during these difficult times.
Mr. Sonowal, on behalf of the people of Assam, expressed his gratitude to the king.
He said the ever-growing bond of friendship and brotherhood between Assam and Bhutan will continue to strengthen the mutual ties in the days to come.
