Amit Shah of the BJP spoke to party workers in Bengal today at a virtual rally.

Kolkata:

Mamata Banerjee’s opposition to the citizenship law will oust her from Bengal, Amit Shah of the BJP said today, warning that the prime minister will eventually become a “political refugee”. “I want to say in Bengal that the CAA is an equally historic decision for persecuted minorities and because of the appeasement policies of previous governments,” said Amit Shah today, speaking to party workers in the State that will go to the polls next year.

“I saw Mamata’s face that day. She was furious and she had a red face. She was so angry that she forgot civility. I want to know what harm they (the refugees) did to her “added Mr. Shah, who has been at the top of his list of acquisitions for five years.

Last year, the BJP won 18 of the state’s 42 parliamentary seats, indicating that the party has made great strides in the state, where it has never won a single seat in the assembly.

Mamata Banerjee’s government not only passed a resolution against the CAA, but also ended the exercise of the national population register.

In parallel to Congress, the Chief Minister of Bengal has increased support for the law, saying it, along with the NPR and NRC or the National Registry of Citizens, will be used to harass Muslims or even make them stateless.

Together, the CAA, NRC and NPR unleashed a storm of protests across the country earlier this year before the coronavirus epidemic came to a head. Before the protests ended, the NRC, which was to be deployed across the country, was suspended by the Center.
