Beijing:
Beijing’s mass tests for new coronavirus will soon enter “fast lane” as city testing capacity increases, senior city health official said Tuesday after COVID-19 suddenly returned almost two weeks.
The city of more than 20 million inhabitants reported its first case during the last epidemic of June 11. The infections were linked to the vast Xinfadi food center in southwest Beijing, which had so far not reported any new cases for nearly two months.
During the next 12 days, 249 people were infected during the worst epidemic in Beijing since the new coronavirus was identified on a seafood market in the central city of Wuhan in China at the end of the last year.
Beijing can now administer more than 3,000,000 nucleic acid tests a day, up from 40,000 in March, Zhang Hua, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, told reporters.
Beijing took samples from 2.95 million people between June 12 and June 22, said Zhang.
“Beijing’s nucleic acid testing strategy is mainly based on the level of risk and severity,” said Zhang, when asked if everyone in Beijing would be tested.
The tests will be carried out in batches and according to the profile of the individuals, he said.
“We will give priority to testing high-risk groups in Xinfadi and other markets involved in the epidemic as well as in surrounding communities,” said Zhang.
“On this basis, we tested workers in restaurants, supermarkets, markets, as well as residents in high-risk neighborhoods. Food delivery workers and package couriers also underwent extensive testing. ladder.”
