Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms tested positive for coronavirus.

Washington, United States:

Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who has gained national recognition for handling turbulent anti-racism protests, tested positive for coronavirus on Monday.

“COVID-19 literally hit the house. I had NO symptoms and I tested positive,” Bottoms tweeted.

In an interview with CNN, she explained that she and her husband, also tested positive, decided to get tested because he had been sleeping more than normal since Thursday.

“I’m still in shock because I have no idea how we were exposed,” said Bottoms.

She also had mild symptoms – a mild headache and a dry cough – but attributed them to allergies.

Bottoms took center stage with a spellbinding speech on May 29, when protests in his city became destructive as people raged over African American police assassination unarmed George Floyd in Minneapolis.

She has since been mentioned as a potential running mate for Joe Biden, the presumed Democratic presidential candidate.

The United States is the hardest hit country in the world, both in confirmed and confirmed deaths. It has reported nearly 3 million cases of COVID-19 and more than 130,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The world‘s largest economic power has experienced a resurgence of the virus since June which has forced several states to suspend their staggered economic reopenings.
