In the midst of a huge increase in coronavirus infections in Assam, the state health department is relying on aggressive tests in the fight against the highly infectious disease. With two rapid lakh antigen test kits, the state has already stepped up testing across Guwahati.
Assam is now fourth in the country in terms of tests per million carried out. The usual RT-PCR and TrueNat tests have also been intensified; the state would reach the goal of testing 5 lakh samples next week.
According to official data, Assam has carried out 13,471 tests per million. Tamil Nadu, which has performed 16,663 tests per million, is third on the list.
Andhra Pradesh is second with 18,597 tests per million and Delhi leads with 32,863 tests per million.
Assam had made 4.59 lakh samples until Sunday.
The state government has set up 31 corona care centers in different parts of Guwahati. They were installed in public schools, closed due to the lockout.
