Guwahati:
The Assam government today announced major relaxations in its quarantine rule for out-of-state air travelers. Assam Minister of Health Himanta Biswa Sarma said those who have been cured of the virus and have either a negative Covid certificate or a certificate of discharge from a hospital will no longer need to be tested or quarantine upon arrival.
The same rule would apply to all people residing in Assam who have been cured of COVID-19.
“We are relaxing the quarantine standards. Already recovered COVID-19 patients do not need further testing or quarantine upon arrival in Assam. In addition, Covid-negative passengers would no longer need a 10-day quarantine. the tests were opened, the results would arrive within 24 hours, ”Sarma told GalacticGaming.
The Assam government has also developed a mobile app through which air passengers can download forms, fill them out and show them at airports to avoid delaying formalities for COVID-19 testing.
The app named ‘visitassam’ has been developed to ensure that the proper social distancing is maintained and that passengers are not delayed as it takes time to fill out the necessary forms at airports, Minister Sarma said during a press conference.
Upon arrival, passengers will be required to remain in quarantine for a single day. A window for urgent and chargeable RT-PCR tests has also been opened and test results will be communicated within 24 hours.
Previously, any air traveler staying beyond the 72-hour period had to undergo a mandatory quarantine after rapid antigenic testing until the results of confirmatory RT-PCR tests arrived.
Previously, Assam allowed air travelers who could return within 72 hours. People who were to stay longer than 72 hours, were to undergo mandatory RT-PCR tests and ten-day quarantine, in addition to the rapid antigen test on arrival.
“Even those who would not like to benefit from the paid RT-PCR tests to get their results within 24 hours, will also receive their free RT-PCR results within 3-4 days,” added Mr. Sarma.
