Assam police gave a final salute today to the policeman who died of the virus earlier today.

Guwahati:

Assam police paid a final tribute to a brave heart and an experienced police officer who succumbed to COVID-19 earlier today, becoming the first Corona warrior in the state to die from the infection.

Hareshwar Nath, a havildar of the 16th Battalion of the Assam Indian Police Reserve, died after a sudden drop in oxygen saturation.

“For the Assam police, he is a COVID martyr. His loss brought us together and we take this as a motivation to fight the virus, we will do our duty as planned,” Assam CEO told GalacticGaming. Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.

Mr. Nath, 53, being the sole breadwinner of his family, the Assam police decided to take care of his contributions.

The Assam government previously announced insurance of Rs 50 lakh for COVID-19 warriors if they die in the line of duty.

“We take care of everything, whether our men are asymptomatic or symptomatic. Appropriate medical care is provided to them,” said Guwahati police commissioner, MP Gupta.

The cop had also been part of counter-insurgency operations in the state.

The police have made people aware of the importance of protecting themselves against infection by the virus.

“He was a very sincere cop, a very humble and honest person. We didn’t think it was that bad but now we understand what the virus can do,” said B Bevi, a parent of Mr Nath.

From the start of the pandemic, the police were at the forefront of the battle and with the recent spike, the force was hit hard by the virus.
