A sessional court in Mumbai has adjourned until November 23 the bail hearing before the arrest of Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami and his wife in a case filed against them by Mumbai Police for allegedly assaulting a policewoman.
Their lawyer Shyam Kalyankar said the plea could not be heard on Thursday because the judge was not presiding.
“The request for provisional release of Arnab Goswami and his wife was simply postponed until November 23,” he said.
“We have not requested any provisional protection against arrest today as we await the detailed order of the Supreme Court (adopted Wednesday granting Arnab Goswami in another case),” Kalyankar said.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court granted provisional bail to Arnab Goswami in a case of alleged “incitement to suicide” by interior designer Anvay Naik in 2018.
Arnab Goswami, who was arrested on November 4, was released from Taloja prison in Navi Mumbai late in the evening.
Last week, an FIR was registered against Arnab Goswami, his wife Samyabrata Ray Goswami and his son at the NM Joshi Marg police station in central Mumbai for allegedly assaulting a female police officer when a police team visited her home. him to arrest him on November 4.
Currently, Arnab Goswami and his wife have filed a plea of provisional release in the assault case.
They were charged under sections 353 of the Indian Penal Code (assault to dissuade a public official from performing his duties), 504 (intentional insult to cause a breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and in under the Public Property Damage Act.
