New Delhi:
Lt. Governor Anil Baijal has appointed Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, senior officer of the IAS, as Senior Secretary (Home), who will also work as a nodal officer for “overall management of COVID-19” in the Delhi government, announced an official order.
This decision is important because the appointment of Mr. Bhalla comes at a time when the Center is overseeing the measures taken to deal with the situation of COVID-19 in the city, which has experienced an alarming peak in cases.
He was transferred by the Interior Ministry to the Delhi government on June 17.
The 1990 IAS officer will be responsible for implementing the decisions and orders issued by the Center and the Delhi government to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the national capital.
According to LG’s order made on Monday, Mr. Bhalla would exercise “the supervision required in all matters related to the prevention and management of COVID-19” in the Delhi government.
On Tuesday, the COVID-19 case count in Delhi crossed the 66,000 mark with the largest jump in a day of 3,947 new infections, while the number of deaths from the disease rose to 2,301.
From Friday to Sunday, 3,000 or more new cases were reported per day in the national capital. On Monday, 2,909 cases were recorded.
