The BJP Punjab unit on Tuesday formed an eight-member committee to contact farmers to inform them of the benefits of the new farm laws, which sparked protests by peasants and opposition parties in different parts of the country. country.

Punjab BJP chairman Ashwani Sharma, who formed the committee, said panel members would speak to restless farmers and inform them of the benefits of the new laws for the community.

Farmers in Punjab and other parts of the country oppose agricultural laws, calling them “anti-farmers”.

Former Punjabi minister Surjit Jyani has been appointed chairman of the committee, Sharma said.

Other members of the committee include former National Kisan Morcha general secretary Harjit Singh Grewal, current secretary Sukhminder Singh Grewal and former National Kisan Morcha chairman Jatinder Singh Atwal.

Ashwani Sharma said the committee will also hold discussions with restless farmers and take note of their reservations and demands.

The committee will also contact and speak to the leaders of the various farmer organizations in the state.

The committee will submit a detailed report to him later within ten days, he said.

Farmers in Punjab have protested against new laws to deregulate the sale of their crops, with their unions claiming the laws will lead to the dismantling of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system.

Congress, along with other opposition parties and peasant organizations, held protests across the country against the new farm laws on Monday.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday approved the three contentious bills – the Agricultural Trade and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, the Agreement on Price Insurance and Agricultural Services Draft Commodity Law (Amendment), 2020.
