Chandigarh:
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s son Raninder Singh did not appear before his Jalandhar office’s Law Enforcement Directorate on Friday in a case of alleged violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act .
Raninder Singh is indisposed, therefore, he could not appear in the emergency room for health reasons, said his lawyer and congressional spokesman, Jaiveer Shergill.
The ED summons involved a case registered by the agency under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) regarding alleged possession of undisclosed assets abroad.
Raninder Singh was interviewed by the ED in 2016 and was asked to explain the alleged movement of funds to Switzerland and the creation of a trust in addition to a few subsidiaries in the British Virgin Islands.
Raninder Singh has denied any wrongdoing.
Recently, party leader Harish Rawat questioned the timing of his summons.
“The ED summons cannot suppress the voice of Amarinder Singh. Captain Amarinder Singh is the voice of Punjab and the country’s farmers. Just look at the ED summons timing. If you raise your voice , ED, Income Tax, CBI will be after you. Isn’t that a message? ”Mr Rawat had tweeted recently.
Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh had criticized the BJP-led government at the Center for the three contentious farm laws the Center recently enacted.
