An Air India flight from Delhi to Moscow had to return midway through Saturday after the airline’s ground crew discovered that one of the pilots had tested positive for a new coronavirus, officials said. .

“When the A320 plane, which had no passengers on its way to Moscow to bring back Indians stranded under the Vande Bharat mission, reached the airspace of Uzbekistan, our ground crew realized that one of the pilots had tested COVID positive, “senior Air India officials said.

“The flight was immediately invited to return. It returned to Delhi around 12:30 p.m. Saturday,” officials said. The crew was quarantined. Another plane would be sent to Moscow to bring back the stranded Indians, officials said.
