Jerusalem:

The IDF said two rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel on Thursday evening with no casualties or damage, and one was intercepted by air defenses.

“Two rockets have just been fired at Israel from Gaza. IDF air defense systems (Iron Dome) intercepted one of the rockets,” the army said on Twitter.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the rockets, but sirens sounded in an area of southern Israel bordering the Gaza Strip to warn residents of the incoming fire.

The last reported rocket attack from Gaza took place on Tuesday evening.

It came after the military announced it had found a new tunnel that traverses “tens of meters (yards) into Israel” from the Palestinian coastal enclave blocked by Israel.

The next day, the military said the tunnel belonged to the Islamist movement Hamas which controls Gaza.

Authorities have discovered around 20 tunnels coming from Gaza since 2014, army spokesman Jonathan Conricus said this week.

Israel has waged three wars with Hamas since the Islamists seized Gaza in 2007 and there have been numerous outbreaks.
