Chennai:
Actor-politician Kamal Haasan today criticized Tamil Nadu’s ruling AIADMK for supporting the three controversial agricultural bills and stressed that the bills “attack state autonomy” and create a “dangerous situation in which a state can do nothing in the face of scarcity or rising prices”. Mr Haasan urged President Ram Nath Kovind to send the bills, passed last week, back to parliament for discussion.
“Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has betrayed farmers in Tamil Nadu by supporting these bills,” Haasan said in a statement, warning that farmers have the power to bury the government.
Tamil Nadu will go to the polls next year. The AIADMK is an ally of the BJP, which heads the central government.
