Members of the Gehlot team enjoyed yoga, film screenings and cooking classes

Jaipur:

Rajasthani Congressmen loyal to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in his battle with rebel leader Sachin Pilot spent another weekend practicing yoga at the luxurious Fairmont hotel in Jaipur, where they have been held since the start of crisis.

A video released on Sunday by the ANI news agency showed the MPs – dressed in T-shirts and tracksuits / shorts – on sheets and mats laid out in a concrete courtyard, stretching and stretching in what seemed to be a meditative pose.

People visible in the video were not wearing face masks – mandatory in public spaces during the COVID-19 crisis – and many were sitting in apparent violation of social distancing rules.

Last week, videos of MPs attending movie screenings, singing songs from Bollywood movies, playing group games and even taking cooking tips from the executive chef at the five-star resort went viral.

Today’s video emerged when Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra received a new proposal from Ashok Gehlot to begin the Assembly session on July 31, with the COVID outbreak on the order of the day.

An earlier proposal was rejected by Mr Mishra on Friday, prompting the chief minister and his deputies to leave the Fairmont and hold a four-hour protest at the governor’s residence, where they shouted slogans in favor of Mr Gehlot and accused Mr. Mishra of acting under pressure from the BJP.

On Saturday, a BJP delegation led by Rajasthani BJP leader Satish Poonia and opposition leader Gulab Chand Kataria met with the governor and criticized Congress for threatening the governor and saying the state was heading towards a “constitutional crisis”.

The protests at the governor’s residence came hours after the rebels, led by Sachin Pilot, obtained a temporary reprieve from the High Court of Rajasthan, which said they could not be disqualified, as Congress had said. hoped, until the question of the President’s credentials is resolved. .

The chief minister pushed for a session of the Assembly so that he could hold a vote of confidence and prove his majority; if Mr Gehlot wins the vote, his government cannot be challenged for the next six months.

So far, Congress has passed only one passing of the majority of 101 in the 200-member assembly. Team Pilot claims the support of 30 MPs, but so far the evidence points to only 19.

The BJP has 72 and the opposition as a whole, including small parties and independent MPs, has 97 so far.

Congress had hoped to disqualify the rebels, thus lowering the majority mark and making Mr. Gehlot’s government more secure.
