He said that until September 28, the government, through its nodal agencies, purchased 46.35 tons of Moong worth Rs 33 lakh MSP for the benefit of 48 farmers in Tamil Nadu. Likewise, 5,089 tonnes of copra (the perennial crop) with an MSP value of Rs 52.40 crore were purchased for the benefit of 3,961 farmers in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu against the sanctioned quantity of 1.23 LMT for Andhra. Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
The ministry further said that the purchase of paddy during the Kharif 2020-21 marketing season started on September 26, 2020 in Haryana and Punjab. Until September 28, the purchase of 3,164 tons of rice in Haryana and 13,256 tons in Punjab for a total of 16,420 tons with an MSP value of Rs 31 crore at an MSP of Rs 1888 per quintal was carried out with 1,443 farmers in Haryana and Punjab. Paddy purchases for other states began on September 28.
Cotton purchases for the 2020-21 season will start from October 1, and the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) will start purchasing FAQ-grade cotton from October 1, he added.
