The finance ministry said in its September economic review report that India may have “surpassed the peak in coronavirus cases,” stressing that “the resulting resurgence in demand is palpable in many many sectors “.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday the government plans to provide Covid vaccines to around 25 crore (250 million) people – out of the country’s 130 crore (1.3 billion) – by July 2021. He said the government would receive between 400 and 500 million doses of vaccine for this purpose and that it would ensure “equitable access”.

Global coronavirus infections topped 3.51 crore as countries tighten restrictions to end the health crisis that has crippled the lives of most of humanity.

The United States remains by far the country hardest hit by the global health crisis, with more than 2.09 deaths.
