New Delhi:
Six NSCN (IM) insurgents were killed Saturday morning during a meeting with security forces in the Khonsa region of Arunachal Pradesh, military sources said.
An Assam Rifles soldier was injured during the operation and his health was stable, they said.
Khonsa is in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh and 50 km from Tinsukia, a large industrial city in Assam.
The meeting took place around 4:30 am, sources said, adding that six weapons and “war stores” had been recovered in the region.
The operation was launched by Assam rifles on the basis of specific reports that armed insurgents were present in the general area of Khonsa in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.
“At around 4:30 am, operational contact was established with NSCN (IM) insurgents in the region. In the ensuing gunfire, six insurgents were neutralized,” said a source.
The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) or NSCN (IM) is a group of insurgents who have been fighting for a separate homeland for the Naga people for several decades.
