Srinagar:
Four terrorists were killed on Saturday in two separate clashes with security forces in Kulgam and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Chingam area of Kulgam district of South Kashmir on Friday evening following specific reports of the presence of terrorists in that country, said a responsible for the police.
He said the search operation turned into a meeting after terrorists shot at a security force party, which retaliated.
During the exchange of fire, two terrorists were killed, the official said.
They were identified as Tariq Ahmad Mir, resident of Zangalpora Divsar Kulgam; and a Pakistani national identified as Sameer Bhai alias Usman, a resident of Punjab in Pakistan, and a category “A” terrorist, the official said.
He said the two terrorists were affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammad group.
“According to police records, the two terrorists killed were part of groups responsible for terrorist attacks. They have been implicated in numerous terrorist crimes and civil atrocities, including the murder of policeman Khursid Ahmad in Furah Mirbazzar and the attack on Aarif Ahmad sarpanch in Akhran Mirbazzar in which he was seriously injured, ”the official said.
An army official said an M4 rifle and pistol were recovered from the meeting site.
In another operation in the Dadoora region of Pulwama district in southern Kashmir, two terrorists were killed, police said.
Police said the meeting began after security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation there following reports of the presence of terrorists.
Two AK rifles were recovered from the meeting site, they added.
