Actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found suspended from his Mumbai residence, police said. No suicide note has been found and an investigation is underway, reports the PTI news agency. The actor was 34 years old. “He committed suicide in his Bandra residence. Our team is there,” Manoj Sharma, additional police commissioner for the Western region, told PTI. Sushant was best known for his work on the television show Pavitra Rishta and for having acted in films such as MS Dhoni: The untold story, detective Byomkesh Bakshy! and Chhichhore.
Tributes began to pour in from a shocked Bollywood. “Honestly, this news left me shocked and speechless … I remember watching #SushantSinghRajput in Chhichhore and tell my friend Sajid, its producer, how much I enjoyed the film and how I would have liked to be part of it. An actor so talented … that God gives strength to his family, “Akshay Kumar tweeted.” What a tragic loss, “Ajay Devgn tweeted.” I can’t believe it at all, “Nawazuddin Siddiqui tweeted. Balaji Telefilms boss Ekta Kapoor, who gave Sushant his debut as an actor, tweeted: “Not just Sushi! One week everything changed! Not just my baby!” She attached a screenshot of the Instagram exchange she had with the late actor a few days ago after revealing a story about how the channel that aired Pavitra Rishta hadn’t wanted Sushant to be in the lead. Ms. Kapoor did not explain what she meant about everything that changed in “a week”.

As recently as last week, Sushant wrote in an Instagram story: “This is such devastating news” after his former manager Disha Salian committed suicide. The last message from Sushant Singh Rajput on her Instagram account was a tribute to her late mother a week ago. “A blurred past evaporating with tears, endless dreams cutting a bow of smile And a fleeting life, negotiating between the two,” he writes.
Sushant Singh Rajput, from Patna, studied engineering in New Delhi before giving up to pursue an acting career. He started on TV, rising to fame in Balaji soap Pavitra Rishta.
Sushant made his Bollywood debut in the 2013 film Kai Po Che! and then played in projects like the biopic MS Dhoni, Shuddh Desi Romance and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! He had a supporting role in Aamir Khan’s hit in 2014 PK. In 2018, Sushant starred in Kedarnath facing the debutante Sara Ali Khan. His latest appearances were in 2019 projects Chhichhore, Sonchiriya and Drive.
The new film by Sushant Singh Rajput Dil Bechara, with Saif Ali Khan, was due to be released in May, but was postponed due to the blockage of the COVD-19 pandemic.
