Beirut:

About 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate were stored in the warehouse at the Port of Beirut which exploded on Tuesday, devastating large parts of the Lebanese capital, Prime Minister Hassan Diab said.

“It is unacceptable that a cargo of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate has been present for six years in a warehouse, without taking preventive measures,” he said at a meeting of the defense council, said said a spokesperson at a press conference.

“This is unacceptable and we cannot remain silent on this issue.”
