A 23-year-old man was arrested in Delhi posing as an Indian Army major and confiscated a fake ID card, police said on Saturday.
The deception came to light when a case was filed Thursday against Suraj Tiwari for willfully injuring and immobilizing and arresting.
Since this was a punishable offense, he was asked to post a bond to secure a bond. But the accused showed an ID card to claim he was a major in the Indian Army and the police cannot arrest him, a senior police official said.
“The ID card was of substandard quality on paper, which raised suspicion. The police questioned him and he confessed that it was false. Subsequently, a case was filed against him at the police station. Prem Nagar police, ”said Deputy Police Commissioner (Rohini) PK Mishra.
It was revealed while in school, that he joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and visited IMA Dehradun once, which fascinated him and he developed a strong liking for the uniform. , said the DCP.
However, he did not have the academic qualification to be an Indian Army officer. So, he forged the ID card and pretended to be a major, Mr. Mishra said.
An investigation is underway to determine whether members of the Defense Ministry were involved in the fabrication of the fake ID card, police said.
