At least 23 people were killed and 29 others injured after being struck by lightning in various parts of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
Eight people died in Allahabad, six in Mirzapur, two in Kaushambi and one in Jaunpur, according to an official statement.
A report from the relief commissioner’s office said that nine other people in Prayagraj, 10 in Mirzapur and four in Kaushambi were badly burned.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his deep anxiety at the loss of human life and ordered the respective district magistrates to extend the compensation of 4 lakh Rs to the families of those killed.
He also asked officials to ensure that proper medical treatment is provided to the injured, the statement said.
A report from Bhadohi said that six people were killed and at least six others injured in different parts of the district.
Additional district magistrate Shailendra Kumar Mishra said that lightning struck various villages in the district late in the evening.
