Ghaziabad:

Fifteen employees of lakh’s electricity department, including junior engineers, sub-division officers, executive engineers and executive engineers, will boycott the work on Monday to oppose the proposal to privatize the company from electricity distribution Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited.

In the event that the central government did not reverse its decision, the boycott would be extended indefinitely, they warned.

Vidhyut Karamchari district official Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti Avdhesh Kumar told PTI on Sunday that the central government was determined to privatize the electricity sector. The protest would take place from morning to evening on Monday and would continue until demand is not met.

“The privatization of the electricity sector has yet to be completed in Orissa, Delhi, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Jalgaon, Ujjain, Gwalior, Bhagalpur, Gaya and Muzaffarpur, including in other parts of the country. Privatization is against the masses because electricity would become more expensive. Only commercial enterprises would benefit. Almost all engineering associations would participate in the event, ”said Mr. Kumar.

The district administration has come up with a plan to resolve any problems with the power supply, Ghaziabad DM Ajay Shankar Pandey said, adding that the 24-hour continuous supply would be ensured at all costs.

The district was divided into six zones with assistant collectors and technical agents deployed to observe the situation in the 149 electrical substations and 22 distribution stations. The city’s supplementary district magistrate (SMA) and the SMA (executive) would monitor the situation in the city and the rural area respectively.

The police were also alerted to check any unfortunate situation in all sub-stations in the neighborhood. The District Development Manager (CDO) was appointed nodal officer to look after the entire district during the boycott.

In addition, qualified technicians have been assigned to all substations to keep the power supply uninterrupted, added DM Pandey.
