More than 160 people died from lightning strikes in Bihar in the past 3 weeks (performance)

At least 10 people were killed in lightning strikes on Sunday in seven districts of Bihar, officials said on Sunday.

Three people were killed in Purnea, two in Begusarai and one in the districts of Patna, Saharsa, East Champaran, Madhepura and Darbhanga, said an official from the Department of Disaster Management.

More than 160 people have died from lightning in the state in the past three weeks.

The largest number of 83 people were killed in lightning strikes in 23 districts on June 25.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed his grief over the death of 10 people due to lightning, an official statement said, adding that “he was with the families of the victims of lightning at the time of the disaster”.

Mr. Kumar ordered the payment of compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the next families of the deceased.

The chief minister called on the people of the state to remain vigilant and stay indoors as much as possible during bad weather.

He also asked people to follow the advice issued by the Department of Disaster Management in this regard.
